The sun shone throughout this fascinating encounter between Soccer X vs Wolves All Stars. The X-Men, included the creative guile and quality of David Staff, Mark Jones, Scott Oakes, Karlton Stratford. Up front, the evergreen Dennis Bailey, led the line superbly with regular reminders of the brilliance that saw him score a hat-trick at Old Trafford on New Years Day 1992. Bailey, inevitably found the net, comfortably beating former Wolves and Hereford United keeper, And De Bont from the spot prior to the interval. Howard Forinton, despite playing Blue Square North football the day before, demonstrated his class and know-how. At the back there were impressive cameo performances from, Terry Muckleberg, Kieran Sullivan and Marvin Johnson, who all looked composed and comfortable throughout. A mention also for competent and assured displays from Chris Taylor and left back Cliff Cousins. Wolves, also played their part in this aesthetically pleasing encounter, with intricate and inventive play. The X-men, perhaps missed the cutting edge of ace striker, Tony Thorpe, forced to pull out due to personal reasons, as chances were continually squandered. However, keeper, Be Bont, was undoubtedly the man of the match, making save after save to foil the incessant X-Men, pressure. Wolves, to their great credit hung on in there and duly got their reward with a screamer that left keeper Chris Taylor clutching at thin air.  The match was a credit to both sides and would have delighted the football purists, in terms of technique and quality. Football has demonstrated once again, that it can unite for worthy causes such as the Brodey Centre Appeal.
